Benjamin Shepler:
Benjamin Shepler is a 24-year-old mental health counseling graduate student at Northern Illinois University. Being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 9 forced him to confront existential issues like "Why me?" from an early age, and he seeks to draw on these lessons learned to better aid his psychotherapy clients. Additionally, he is in the process of starting a Diabetes Link chapter at NIU and uses his position as a therapist to empower the wider diabetic community and raise awareness.
